Racism Pt 1

Okay so I posted this statement on Facebook the other day, and unfortunately only received one response.

I want to write a blog tomorrow about racism. I want to know everyone opinions on these words and why, not arguing or debating or I will delete the posts if directed towards anyone. Words are: Nigger, Honkey, Cracker, Rag Head, Beaner, wetback, and any others you can think of, what do you think of those? What words aren't racist? Does it bother you? Will post blog tomorrow.

This all began when I read my cousins post that said, something along the lines of "I hate niggers, people can be so ignorant, not only blacks but whites as well."

Don't quote me, quoting her. But it was close to that.

The thing is there was a huge debate going on within her status post. Yeah she worded it wrong. Especially since so many people are truly racist and judgmental. As far as the word "Nigger" goes it is defined as a racial slur, and also "a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc." (reference:http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nigger)She was surely talking about the ignorance part, but then again why couldn't she just say that "ignorant", instead she said the word "Nigger" and if because offensive and hurtful to many black people on her friends list. They felt as if she was a racist. She was saying she wasn't, but then again was she trying to get a rise out of them for using the much confused term? Or was she trying to make a point, that no matter what, people feel discriminated against, even if something wasn't intended towards their culture or heritage.

Lets start at the biggest controversy. The word Nigga, and the word Nigger. Are they the same? If not, what makes them different? Why is it wrong for one person to say it and not another? Why do people live by the past, and judge people in the present. We couldn't change our ancestry, so why should we be blamed?

The word "Nigger" started before the 1900's and was just a term to describe a darker skin tone. It was derived from the Spanish and Portuguese word negro and also the french word negre, which turned the American form to negro. In the United Kingdom and the Anglophone world, they used the term nigger to describe "dark skinned foreigners." After the 1900's they constantly would refer to blacks as Nigger's instead of colored because it did have the "ignorance" term attached to it which made it for offensive.

I'm not going to get into depth on the history, if your reading this than you should have had significant education to know about this topic. I just don't understand why blacks think whites are always trying to judge them on their skin tone. Or why whites feel the need to not try to understand the culture and situations, and taunt it. The thing is, that is our past but people aren't making it that way, especially with the term "Nigga", isn't that just a slang word for "Nigger"? Why would you call yourself that? If its not okay for "whites" to call you it then why would you call yourself or your friends that? Martin Luther King Jr worked so hard to get blacks the same rights as white and after awhile blacks and whites were equal, but if you don't keep fighting for your rights what he did isn't going to matter. You can't fight for your culture when your using a racial slur turned into uneducated slang on each other. And if its a friendly term then why can't other use it outside of your race?

I honestly don't want to cause problems, but this is from my perspective. I think that we should all be equal, and not judge each other because the only difference between blacks and whites are our skin pigments. It doesn't matter where we were 1st from, because if that were the case I would be fighting for Irish rights, German rights, Indian rights, French rights, and Austrian rights. It's who we are today, and who we want to be. We can't let our past, or the ignorant people around us affect who we are.

I didn't get any feed back from other cultures so I am going to end this right here for now. I might write more later. I hope you enjoyed my views and insights.

Sometimes you don't realize that you have something good

I though i would write a post about one of my good friends. Her name is Julie. She is the only friend who has been there for me any time I needed it, never cancelled any plans, always follows through with what she says. She is so kind hearted that is actually hard to believe. I just really want to publicly thank her for how happy she has made me, she is a big part of what makes me smile.

Its really crazy that we automatically expect people to be screw us over because not to many people show you otherwise. But when that one person comes along, sometimes we just can't believe it. I'm really hoping her friendship is sincere because it has been since we reconnected after 9 years. I'm not going to take anything for granted anymore because you need to appreciate it before its gone, because you never know what can happen with in the next 30 seconds.

Much more later. Time for bed. Good Night.
